Be a part a proud Colorado tradition by celebrating at BurroFest 2020.
This popular festival features a wide range of burro-centric activities, including burro racing, a burro packing demonstration, and burro as plein air models, and more Burro Art than you can pin a tail on!
EVENT SCHEDULE • MANCOS BURROFEST • JUNE 20, 2020
Location: Mancos, Colorado
Parking: Hoffman Park on the southeast corner of Main and Grand Avenue
10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Registration
11:00 to 12:30 Dining with Donkeys
Food trucks will be available in the registration area. Spectators are invited to mix and mingle with the burros and their racers.
12:30 Derby Hat Contest at Announcers Booth (this will get people across the street to the Park where the main event takes place)
1:00 Grand Entry
The burros will be lined up behind an escort carrying the American Flag and children with donkey marionettes. You will parade across the street to the park, stand for the national anthem, and then be introduced with the burro bio. Each burro will take its place at the starting line after introduction.
1:30 DONKEY DERBY
Timed Speed Event under one mileFIRST PLACE: First Burro over the finish line
(After all burros have returned to the Start/Finish )
– The obstacle course similar to a dog agility course in a central “Arena”
– Each burro will enter the course individually based on their number.
– The obstacles will include various challenges such as jumps and weaving through barrels of Tasty treats. You will be supplied with course and list of obstacles well in advance.
– Each burro will be timed and “faults” will be given if the burro fails to negotiate an obstacleFIRST PLACE: the burro with the best time, minus Faults
After the last burro has completed the Obstacle Course, Awards will be announced and each burro will be brought forward for their award
DERBY WINNER – Fastest Time
OBSTACLE COURSE WINNER – Best Time with least Faults
BEST COSTUME – Costumes are required! Get creative! Think about themes such as Disney Characters, Mining, Ethnic subjects such as Navajo wood carriers, Mexican themes, cowboys and cowgirls, historic personalities such as Olga Little.
GRAND PRIZE – The Burro with the best combined times from the Derby and the Obstacle course, with the least faults. The grand prize winner will receive a framed copy of “Three Friends” by Veryl Goodnight
Other great awards are being arranged for all categories

Modeling for Artists
The artists will also have short and funny bios in the program. each artist will be pre-assigned a burro team and you and your artist will be wearing the same number. the program will include the location where you and your artist will be modeling.
Return your burros to their trailers with ample food and water and join us in town for various other festivities including live music at Fenceline Cidery.
